I’m excited to share with you what I believe is a bigger picture perspective of the momentum around the recent Apple launch and what this means for the industry. You may recall last month Apple announced three versions of the thinnest and lightest MacBook Pro™ design yet, two of which have four Thunderbolt™ 3 ports.Along with this exciting announcement several device and peripheral companies expanded their offerings with products compatible with the already robust Thunderbolt ecosystem, for example:
- LG announced the UltraFine 5KDisplay that was optimized for the MacBook Pro. The 5K display is the first one on the market with Thunderbolt 3 and not only has the capability to transfer 5K video, audio, and data but simultaneously charge via the Thunderbolt 3 cable.
- Belkin also announced the new Thunderbolt™ 3 Express Dock which is compatible with the new MacBook Pro and also PCs.
- OWC announced a Thunderbolt 3 dock with the capability of adding up to 13 ports both for Macs or PCs.
- ATTO Technology announced the industry’s first comprehensive line of Thunderbolt 3 devices, beginning with Thunderbolt 3 to 40Gb Ethernet, 10Gb Ethernet, 32Gb Fibre Channel and 16Gb Fibre Channel.
- LaCie introduced its first external solid-state storage solution, the Bolt3 using Thunderbolt™ 3.
- Promise announced the launch of the Pegasus3 Symply Edition. The new system combines lightning-fast 40 Gb/s Thunderbolt™ 3 performance with Symply’s powerful storage management suite.
