Thunderbolt 3 Honored as CES 2016 Innovation Awards Honoree

Posted on December 7th, 2015

CES is a trade show like no other: 170,000 attendees from 153 countries around the world, and more than two million net square feet of exhibit space for showcasing the world’s leading consumer technology. With this kind of scale and magnitude, CES is a launchpad for the year’s most anticipated product introductions.

But amidst the noise each year, a select group of products standout as truly the best, cutting-edge innovations available.

This year, ThunderboltTM 3 is among that select group as a CES 2016 Innovation Awards Honoree. Recognized within the Computer Hardware and Components category, judges recognized Thunderbolt 3 for its outstanding design and engineering.

Thunderbolt™ 3 brings Thunderbolt™ to USB-C at speeds up to 40 Gbps, creating one compact port that delivers the fastest, most versatile connection to any dock, display or data device. Intel developed the technology and the Thunderbolt 3 controller that enables it in computers and devices.

In a recent interview with Computer America, Director of Thunderbolt Marketing, Jason Ziller, explains how this new technology is now improving consumer technology for the masses.

“As we go forward with Thunderbolt 3, it’s a game changer version of this technology,” says Ziller. “It’s simply the USB-C that does it all. It’s a compact port that does data and video. It’s the fastest and most versatile connection to any display, any device, billions of USB devices... and it also runs Thunderbolt up to 40 Gbps.”

As we look forward to what 2016 will bring for consumer electronics, we’re confident that Thunderbolt 3 will be one of the visionary technologies leading the industry forward with more speed, more pixels, more power, and more protocols than ever before.
